Polarization mode of antenna
For wireless communication signals, antenna polarization is one of the characteristics. If multiple antennas are to be installed at the same location on a signal tower, polarization becomes an extremely important consideration factor.
Polarization depends on the installation method of the antenna, and the installation method is generally divided into two types: horizontal and vertical. To ensure optimal network performance, only antennas with the same polarization should be used in point-to-point wireless applications. Although antennas with different polarities can also be used to establish wireless links, network performance and connectivity will be affected in this case. The biggest advantage of using different antenna polarization methods is to reduce interference. If horizontal or vertical polarization cannot meet the requirements of wireless applications, there are also dual polarization, cross polarization, and circular polarization antennas to choose from.
A dual polarized antenna is equipped with two types of antenna elements within the same physical casing (antenna cover), one of which is a vertical polarization element and the other is a horizontal polarization element. When installed correctly, the dual polarized antenna can communicate with both vertical and horizontal polarized antennas simultaneously. One advantage of a bipolar antenna is that it can be said to provide two antennas on the same device, thereby saving space and money. This type of antenna is typically used for MIMO (Multiple Input/Multiple Output) wireless access points and CPE devices.
Cross polarized antenna, sometimes also known as a cross polarized antenna, consists of two components placed in the same housing, but one of the components is polarized at+45 ° and the other is polarized at -45 °. The positive and negative 45 ° angles of these two components form a cross shaped configuration. When cross polarized antennas are combined with vertical and horizontal polarized antennas, interference can be further reduced.
Circular polarized antennas produce the same response to horizontally or vertically polarized antennas. Circular polarized antennas are divided into two types: right-handed polarization and left-handed polarization, to meet the needs of various wireless connection applications. Using circularly polarized antennas on fixed access points can achieve better results for remote linear polarization links that are constantly moving.
